Welcome

After more than 40 years as an artist working in every genre, my current paintings are abstract landscape or urban art using oil & wax on paper.

My landscapes use large color fields that maximize the effect of the horizontal line that is so familiar to people of the prairies.
Many of my urban art paintings emphasize the horizon line as well.

While this division of space can be soothing and tranquil, the application of paint can be dynamic. This contradiction creates a type of tension as the viewers eye moves between the details of the space.

The urban art series portrays the mystique of shadows and light on old walls. I love the textures and mysterious shapes that create subtle shifts in color. The intriguing history and occasional graffiti is very beautiful to me. I want the viewer to be curious about the stories that are held in these walls.

My approach to painting is to begin with a clearly defined color palette, then decide how I will divide the space. I mix oils with cold wax medium to form a buttery consistency that is luminous when it dries.

Art, like life; is messy and time consuming. Ideas take time to incubate and change needs to be understood and accepted. For me, art is a process and spiritual practice that requires introspection and contemplation. It is a practice where every stage is completed with devoted attention.
